Sunday (7/27) there were 11 Greater Yellowlegs,
one silent Dowitcher(Short-billed?), one SEMI-PALMATED
PLOVER(a first for me in Washington County), one
spotless Sandpiper(immature, speckaled on the wings),
and uncounted Killdeer. This was in the ne corner of
Eagle Perch Pond. The various bodies of open water
were absolutely deserted. I have rarely seen less
interesting prospects and almost left with no observations
of merit.
The favored shorebird spot is a long walk from the
official parking lot. My prefered method is to drive
down Fernhill Rd, turn east onto Geiger Rd. After it
makes a dog=leg south, take a U-turn in the Pruitt Farm
driveway and there is a one car parking space halfway
back to the dog=leg turn on Geiger. One must be mildly
athletic to climb the new gate at the se corner of
Eagle Perch Pond.
I heard a Greater Yellowlegs over my house in the
woods at 8pm July 26. This is only the second detection
here in 15 years, the other time in early October a
few years back. Lars Norgren
