[obol] Coastal White-headed Woodpecker

All,
For what it's worth, there are at least 2 relatively recent records of
White-headeds from coastal Northern California:

Arcata, 21 Dec 1996
Humboldt Co, 6 Apr 2000

Considering that the observer did not see the bird with binoculars and was
more than half a football field away, Ockham's razor would probably lean
toward an aberrantly plumaged local species over a White-headed Woodpecker
on the coast in summer.
