I recently returned from an extended Great Basin Birding trip. 148
species, 5 states, and one rather unusual insect. Highlights included
huge numbers of EARED GREBES, TRUMPETER SWANS, and BLACK THROATED GREY
WARBLERS at the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, SNOWY PLOVERS at the
Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge, and WESTERN GREBES running on the
water at the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge. At Malheur NWR in
Oregon we had EASTERN PHOEBE, BLACK CHINNED HUMMINGBIRDS among other
nice birds. We also had a GREAT TAILED GRACKLE at the Lamoille Valley
Nevada. And now, if youre still reading, one of the 'possible' birds. At
Jamieson, Oregon we had a 5 second look at what we both agreed appeared
to be an UPLAND SANDPIPER. The tall bird had a thin, long neck; short
bill; long legs.. we saw it walk from the an open edge into the grass.
We did not get a photo of this bird, but other photos from the trip can
be seen at:

Good birding!
