Hello Obol,

At approximately 5:30 this afternoon, Iain Tomlinson and I relocated the
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW reported earlier today by Shawneen Finnegan. As advertized,
the bird was located about 50 yards beyond the fork in the Nature Trail at
Oak Island. Initially the bird was singing in the taller shrubs next to the
oaks, but then came down for point-blank looks on the lower blackberry bushes.
We got repeated bammer views over a period of 15 to 20 minutes (not to rub
it in, Tom M).

The bird was notable for its crisp facial pattern including a white median
crown stripe, bold white supercilium, distinct lateral throat stripe and clean
gray nape framing the brown auricular patch.

Many thanks to Shawneen, Bob Lockett and Adrienne Wolf-Lockett for finding
this excellent bird--a Code 5 rarity in Multnomah County.

Cheers,

John Fitchen
Portland
