Position Title: Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator

Position Summary: The Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator (BCC) will
spend 50% of their time organizing volunteer riparian and wetland
restoration projects. Volunteer event organizing will include volunteer
recruitment, development of restoration plans, monitoring and tracking
plant survival on active and past volunteer sites, acquisition of plant
stock, public involvement and education, site preparation, and related
tasks. Efforts will focus on invasive removal and native plant
installation. About 40% of their time will be spent creating and
implementing bird biodiversity survey protocols (4 surveys will be done
during the year: Fall migration, Winter survey, Spring migration, and
May/June nesting survey) to determine the extent and types of birds
present in the City’s 1,080 acres of open spaces. The BCC will work with
other AmeriCorps volunteers and city staff to assess the impacts of
various disturbances on species found and to implement bird habitat
improvement projects in the City’s public open spaces. The remainder of
the placement will focus on related natural area education, improvement,
and research activities.
