Obol,
Sorry for the late message (I'll use finals as my excuse), but last
Friday June 6th, while conducting marsh bird surveys I observed a pair of
AMERICAN AVOCETS SW of the observation platform in the Fisher Unit. The
birds were east of the regular Black-crowned night heron bushes.
Interestingly, the pair was defending territory on one of the doughnut
shaped islands. A Great-blue Heron was nearby and both birds were
incessantly dive bombing it. Generally when I observe this with other
species it is nest defense. I speculated last year, so will not this time
around.
