How about Steller's Jay pellets?

Sometime around 2002, Marilyn O'Grady who works in the Nature Store up at Audubon Society of Portland, brought in a shoe box lid filled with what she called Steller's Jay pellets. There were dozens of them from her yard where she gets a lot of Jays. She kept them there on the counter as "show-and-tell" for a couple of weeks.

They were about as big as your small fingernail, maybe a tad larger. They consisted entirely of black oil sunflower seed husks, glued together with Steller's Jay internal juices.

Life brings us new knowledge every so often, in this case at the hands of an observant Marilyn O'Grady.
