Surprise - even on a wet Saturday morning around 10:00
Two OTTERS seen playing, mostly out in the largest part of the wetland water
and then very close to the far east woodsy shore between Creekside 6 and 7.
Saw one eat what looked like a fish. They seem to swim quite far and underwater when they want to. Oddly, did not see a nutria but sure are plenty of signs of BEAVERS.
They are chomping down bushes on the north side, east of the tennis court, right and left!
VIOLET GREEN SWALLOWS were swooping over water. My first here, this year.
DOWNY WOODPECKER & Flicker
Lots of Buffleheads
WOOD DUCK pair found
Scaup, Ringnecked, Green-wing Teals, N. Shovler, Gadwalls, Mallard,
C. Merganser pair, 4 Hooded Mergansers, Am.Coot, Pied-billed,
The Canada Geese seem to be pairing up and spreading out some.
BAND-TAILED PIGEONS, Mourning Doves,
Red-wings, scrub jays, many yellow-rumps, and song sparrows.
Red-tail hawk and 7 Great Blue Herons almost lined up along the shore.
(No Bald Eagle seen today - photos that my friend Marlene took the other day still amaze me. Wish I'd been with her)
(Am. Widgeons were south of Scholl's Ferry, still on Nimbus, just beyond Burger King, East side of road, near fountain. They seem to like this grassy area for some reason)
