Peter,

The bird in the bottom picture is a Lesser Goldfinch, a different species
than the American Goldfinch. I'm sure you will have many responses to your
message from the Portland area.

Subject: [obol] Goldfinch question

I have photos of American Goldfinches taken in my backyard in Beaverton
about

six months apart. Some have orange beaks and legs while others have black
beak

and legs. Are these different varieties or are the variations due to age or
season?

Photos may be viewed at www.peterhoffman.homestead.com/question.html

I am new to birding and would appreciate your input. Thanks.
