Hell folks,

With Rufous Hummingbirds showing up in western Oregon and Sage Sparrows
and Snow Geese arriving in southeast Oregon, it's been starting to seem
like spring.

Now it's official: WINTER IS OVER! That is, at least in terms of field
notes for /Oregon Birds/ and /North American Birds/. Please visit:

http://www.oregonbirds.org/fieldnotes.html

to see how to report your most significant sightings for the Winter
2007-08 period (December 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008).

Also, if you use the BirdNotes database at www.birdnotes.net, please try
to file your remaining reports for the winter season by Tuesday, March
4th. At that point I'll produce quarterly summary reports from the
database, to pass on to the field notes editors.

I'm stepping down as Willamette Basin field notes compiler, effective
with the Spring 2008 season that begins today. I just have too many
other volunteer involvements to keep up with this task properly. If you
visit the web page for recent regional field notes compilations:

http://www.oregonbirds.org/FieldNotes/FieldNotesStatewide.html

you can see that I've fallen seriously behind the compilers for most of
the other regions. Henceforth I'll be focusing on my other involvements,
as well as working through the backlog of Willamette Basin reports for
recent seasons.

I'd be happy to hear from any volunteers who'd like to pick up the
Willamette Basin job for the Spring 2008 season that starts today. The
Rogue-Umpqua region is also open as Dennis Vroman wants to focus on
compiling the wealth of bird observation data that he has produced for
Josephine & Jackson County in past years.

Thanks & happy birding,
Joel
