Roy Gerig and I missed each other's birds at Ankeny today.

Around 1100 Steve Burock (my husband) and I saw 10-12 Tree Swallows at Eagle
Marsh, and 2 other larger swallow flocks that crossed the road and
disappeared into the fog too quickly to be seen very well.

Also at Eagle Marsh were a pair of Pied-billed Grebes that Steve saw first.
He said looked to be having a tiff. When I looked at them they were shoulder
to shoulder, as if engaged in a sort of flamenco dance. Both were pulled up
half out of the water and pivoting around each other like the two ends of a
fan blade. Then they separated and swam apart, one turning back toward the
other within a minute.
