On Friday the 29th the first VIOLENT-GREEN SWALLOW
showed up at the BLM office in North Bend (the
earliest date since I've been keeping track the last
10 years or so). Jim Heaney's sharp eye caught the
bird which I never saw.

Out at Floras Lake on 2 February there was no MOUNTAIN
PLOVERS, they were last seen about a week ago but may
have moved on or relocated. I did see 4 PALM WARBLERS
at the Blue Silos on the way back to Hwy 101, also
Turkey Vulture and Tree Swallow. Also had one hybrid
Glaucous-winged x Glaucous Gull out along Floras
Creek.

Back in Coos Bay the RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD migration is
peaking. Our feeders were absolute mayhem late PM.
We had up to 9 hummers trying to come to several of
our 4 holer feeders in the backyard. There were 10+
of both Anna's and Rufous' Hummers plus one very
green-backed male that may have been an ALLEN'S. It
was valiantly trying to hold one feeder and getting
blitzed by multiple birds. Lots of tumbling around,
smacking, crash dives and such. Way cool.

Out on the north spit of Coos Bay the AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW is still around. Also, one SHORT-EARED OWL is
still hanging out in Larry Mangan's back pasture up
North Inlet (North Bend area).

That's it for now- merry springtime!!
