I have seen both Dunlin and Sanderling on jetty or rocks along the
shore.  In fact, just about the Surfbirds was a single Sanderling on the
North Jetty Yaquina Bay.  And I was once embarrassed by a Dunlin on
rocks near the Three Graces in Tillamook Bay, as I tried to turn it into
a Rock Sandpiper for a Portland Audubon group I was leading.
(Fortunately, there was a real Rock Sandpiper in the area as well, so I
was able to go with the ever popular "Two Bird" theory as I corrected
myself.
