Historically in Coos County, Osprey did not normally
arrive until mid to late March. That said, the past
10 years or so we've had several Osprey overwinter
here. If you see one of these individuals in early
March you may surmise that the Osprey are back when
it's actually just one of the overwintering birds.
Not sure how regular overwintering Opsrey are in other
areas of W. Oregon, but they are regular on the south
coast now (though in small number). The next migrant
I'm expecting to show up down here (after the vulture,
hummers, and Tree and VG Swallows) is Caspian Tern-
the first could appear anytime in the next couple of
weeks.
