Today (03-11-08) the 4th North Grants Pass Raptor count was accomplished.

Time: 3.0 hrs; miles driven: 38.0; weather: Partly cloudy/overcast

Species observed:

Red-tailed Hawk - 12
American Kestrel - 4
Bald Eagle - 3 (adults; pair at possible new nest location, single at old nest site)
Red-shouldered Hawk - 1
White-tailed Kite - 1
Osprey - 1
Turkey Vulture - 20

Watched an adult Bald Eagle fly into a big, flat-topped Ponderosa pine, only to see there was already another adult in the tree. The tree had pretty good sized limbs near its flatten top and would likely support a nest. Was not able to tell for sure if there was a nest in tree due to the distance and angle I observed from. One single Eagle was perched near another nest tree, but could not see any bird actually on the nest for sure.

Turkey Vultures on there way northward for sure.
