[obol] Eugene's Wednesday birders

Wednesday, March 12, George Grier, Fred Chancey, Randy Sinnott, Sylvia Maulding and I went to Perkins Peninsula and Zumwalt Park on the southern edge of Fern Ridge Reservoir.  We saw no grebes on the lake from our vantage point.  Sparrows in general were scarce.  We found the following birds.  -Dennis

 

Cackling Goose, several large flocks 

Canada Goose, a few 

Mallard 

Green-winged Teal 

Double-crested Cormorant, on every stump out in the reservoir 

Great Blue Heron 

Bald Eagle, at least 16 and possibly 21, all subadults except one. 

Red-shouldered Hawk, two at a nest near Jean's road. 

Red-tailed Hawk 

Killdeer 

Dunlin, one flock feeding with a group of Green-winged Teal in shallow waters 

Mew Gull 

Ring-billed Gull 

Herring Gull, 2+ 

Glaucous-winged Gull 

Mourning Dove 

Acorn Woodpecker, three flying over us at Jean's Road

Red-breasted Sapsucker 

Northern Flicker, many 

Hutton's Vireo, one singing 

Western Scrub-Jay 

American Crow 

Common Raven 

Tree Swallow, many above us all morning 

Black-capped Chickadee 

Bewick's Wren 

Winter Wren 

Golden-crowned Kinglet 

Ruby-crowned Kinglet 

American Robin 

Varied Thrush 

European Starling 

Yellow-rumped Warbler, a few 

Townsend's Warbler, one 

Spotted Towhee 

Song Sparrow, very few 

White-crowned Sparrow, one or two 

Dark-eyed Junco, several 

Red-winged Blackbird
