Duane Cole and I ran the Christmas Valley Raptor Survey yesterday, March 12, and had an interesting encounter with a Bobcat. Just into the first leg of the survey we saw something on a power pole cross arm that did not look like a Red-tail. As we got closer it looked like a house cat. Then it looked like a big gray house cat. Then it turned into one nervous Bobcat. After a staring contest, I got out of the car to get my scope and camera but he decided that this was not a good place for to be and climbed and jumped down to take off through the sagebrush. This was a first for the raptor route.

Other non-raptor animals seen included 3 male Sage grouse, 1 was strutting until a Bald Eagle came buy and they also headed for the thick sagebrush, 1 N. Shrike, 3 coyotes, 12 Mule deer, 70 Pronghorns, 4 E. Collared Doves, and hundreds of Mtn. Bluebirds.

Raptors seen.
30 Red-tailed Hawks
 3 N. Harriers
 7 Adult Bald Eagles
13 Golden Eagles
 6 Rough-legged Hawks 8
 8 Ferruginous Hawks
 3 Prairie Falcons
 1 Great-horned Owl
