Since Cardinal color and other plumage details are being discussed as
possible clues to its place of origin, I've posted another "for what it's
worth" photo from this morning at http://empids.blogspot.com/. I'm sorry
these photos are not sharper, but I wasn't able to digiscope this bird. I
took a few quick photos from the car about 120 feet away with a 12x digital
zoom. The bird then disappeared for a while, so we got out and set up a
scope. When it reappeared, we quickly got the scope on it, and the camera
to the eyepiece, but a Sharp-shinned hawk showed up before I was able to get
a good shot. That ended the Cardinal viewing, and our time was up, anyway.
This bird is not within the city limits of Dayton, and unfortunately the
backyard where it's hanging out is about 1/4 mile from the nearest public
road. But if you happen to pass through the area a few miles south of town,
keep your eyes open.
