[obol] Cardinal Fever

By all means, send in a record to OBRC! I think that
is a great idea.

I would suspect cardinals are a very popular cage
bird. I know they have been introduced to places like
Hawaii, who knows where else? With a species like
this, wouldn't one need to assume it's not arrived on
its own power and then try to find evidence of why it
could be otherwise? That may be difficult at best so
we are stuck with stuff like number of accepted
records from neighboring states, vagrancy patterns,
etc.

What got me started on this was that I noticed people
asking for directions to obviously chase a bird they
may not chase if they knew they couldn't tick it off
on their state list. Further, the location was to be
kept secret because the person hosting the bird was
reluctant to have lots of visitors. Of course, if
you've seen the bird then you can stump for getting it
included on the list, guess I'll have to wait for my
next trip to AZ (or maybe I'll ask Russ to smuggle one
back to Coos Bay on his upcoming trip- he did good
with those caracaras I asked to bring up except for
the ones that slipped away from him at a stop in N.
CA).

Cheers all, and good luck you twitchers!!

PS: The late March doldrums have really set in...
