[obol] cardinals as caged birds & misc.

I have a few thoughts and questions that I can't keep to myself anymore.
Sorry. I'll be brief and then go back to work.

#1. Tim. March Doldrums?? Hey, Anne found a Tufted Duck yesterday!!!

#2. I agree that Northern Cardinals are commonly kept (trapped and
sold) as pets in Mexico. Has anyone ever seen a caged Northern Cardinal in
the USA? I have not.

#3. It seems the conventional "wisdom" here should be more properly
identified as conventional "opinion", and that conventional opinion is that
they are sedentary and so therefore couldn't have arrived here on their own.
As Rich Armstrong pointed out, the pattern of those seen in the Prairie
Provinces and North Dakota may indicate otherwise.

#3. The Xantus Hummingbird was commonly accepted as a sedentary
species too, at least that was the opinion going around while that bird was
still coming to the feeder in BC. If that is the case, how did it make it
to BC on its own a few years back? If I am not mistaken, that species is
now on the BC list.

#4. Planting of Eucalyptus attracts warblers. Oops. Sorry. Got mixed
up! Different position on a different thread!

#5. It's just my opinion, but it also seems to me that there might be
an undercurrent of positions being staked out here based on opinions rather
than facts? Also could there also be a thread underneath all of this
related to the change in demographics of our local residents, i.e. more
Latinos and therefore another assumption that they are the sources of all
the supposedly kept caged Northern Cardinals that no one has ever seen?

Sorry if I stepped on some toes (not really, fingers crossed).
