Late Winter/Early Spring Harney County trip March 14-17

  Weather: snow flurries and cold, road to Foster Flat blocked by snowdrift
  some open water, roads open
   
  Highlights:
   
  American White Pelican            1 at HQ Display pond
  Black-crowned Night-Heron    1 at Benson Pond
  Snow Goose                Abundant near Burns at least 1 blue phase
  Ross’s Goose               Abundant near Burns at least 2 blue phase
  Tundra Swan                Common throughout basin
  Cinnamon Teal A number of pairs from Page Springs to Burns
  Eurasian Wigeon           1 male on Hotchkiss Lane near Burns
  Redhead                       2 pairs at Buena Vista
  Greater Scaup               1 male at Burns sewage ponds
  Ferruginous Hawk        several thoughout basin
  Rough-legged Hawk     a couple near HQ
  Virginia Rail                  one near Springs south of Page Springs along the river
  Long-billed Curlew       a pair along Foley Road east of Burns
  Herring Gull                  an adult and 2 immatures at the Narrows
  Eurasian Collared Doves           Many in Burns
  Red-naped Sapsucker  Frenchglen
  Hairy Woodpecker       Page Springs
  Say’s Phoebe               conspicuous throughout basin
  Steller’s Jay                  Frenchglen
  Scrub Jay                     Hines
  Tree swallow                numerous along south portion of CPR
  Black-capped chickadee          a pair at a feeder in Burns
  Mountain chickadee      Page Springs and Foley Road at Lone Pine
  Western Bluebird          a pair along Foley Road
  Cedar Waxwings          ~50 in Burns (No Bohemians!)
  Cassin’s Finch 2 females in Frenchglen behind school
