1st Orange-crowned Warbler - today - in Red Currant Bush -eating
insects-good views
30 Band-tailed Pigeons -today
6 Rufous Hummers -yesterday- biggest bunch yet out here -many still around
today
Other Note: Just got back from San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico on Thursday night.
Huge warbler flocks seen: mostly Nashville, Orange Crowned, Wilson's, BT
Gray, MacGillavry, etc. but first 3 just in waves! I have never been in a
"fallout" but that's almost like what it was at times. Also BG Gnatcatchers
just everywhere. So they are surely coming our way! (Mark Stackhouse was my
main guide. We saw over 230 species thanks to his ability and knowledge of
the area- he lives there and is married to a Mexican woman and really knows
some fantastic spots not mentioned in Howell's guidebook. Oh, yes, I did see
the Rufous-necked Wood-Rail, Phoebe Snetsinger's 8000th bird...with Mark and
Chencho. Chencho called it/them out with a hmmppfff hmmppfff hmmppfff that
he vocalized on his own.)
Happy Spring & Good Birding,
John Thomas
