Dippers begin forming pairs during the winter and often have
territories established by the end of February, especially at lower
elevations. They are on eggs of the first brood by mid-March and
young are often seen in the nests by early April. So this is only a
week or so earlier than might typically be expected but well within a
normal range of dates. They will frequently start a second brood by
May and it is the second brood that more people are familiar with,
making March-April nesting look early.
