[obol] Eugene birders: Fern Ridge hot spots, Skinner Butte?

I'm planning a day in the field Saturday with a novice and an intermediate-level birder, to include stops at Fern Ridge and Skinner Butte.   
   
  Where do you recommended this time of year at Fern Ridge, besides Royal Ave?  Will it be obvious where to go (which dikes to walk) at Royal Ave?
   
  What's the easiest way to get to Skinner Butte, from, say, Hwy 99?  (Directions/map are not included in Evanich and it's been many years since I've been there.)  We won't make it there early--is mid-day still worth a visit?
   
  Are there any online guides to birding the greater Eugene area?  (If so, they aren't easily found with Google!)  I did find a bit of info on the Wings and Wine website.
   
  Any other tips are welcome!  Hope to see some of you in the field.
