Three CHIPPING SPARROWS clustered together feeding in my yard on Wed.
April 23. Only one was there on Thursday, and it was gone on Friday.
One of the two LINCOLN'S SPARROWS that arrived in my yard on April 19
remains, feeding with GOLDEN-CROWNED and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS.
On May 1, four EVENING GROSBEAKS appeared and scoped out the feeders.
On May 1, a pair of AMERICAN DIPPERS made repeated visits to a
probable nest site on the left side of Chichester Falls, which is
along Big Fall Creek Road past Fall Creek Reservoir. The male sang
repeatedly from various perches on rocks and downed trees out over the
water not far from the base of the falls. What a treat it is to hear
the melodious song of a dipper!
The woods were generally quiet, with just a smattering of breeding
birds present, with the exception of AMERICAN ROBINS. They were
abundant along the roadside. An OSPREY is on the nest below the Fall
Creek Reservoir dam. At the Pengra covered bridge, BLACK-THROATED
GRAY WARBLERS were in full song.
