Took my old friend Paul Bithorn from Florida out to Johnson Rd (off OR47 near Stub Stewart SP) last night after work. Compared to two days ago, bird activity has increased dramatically. We found Orange-crowned, Wilson's, McGillivray's and Yellow-rumped Warblers, all off the trail at the 1mi mark. Add 2 lingering Golden-crowned Sparrows, several Purple Finches, a singing House Wren, the continuing Hairy Woodpecker and a plethora of Red-breasted Sapsuckers at the same spot. No Mountain Quail this time. The highlight were 2 singing Hermit Warblers at the end of Johnson Rd (gate). One showed itself in excellent lighting in the fading sun for Paul's lifer. The customary celebratory libation was held soon after.
