Obol,
I had 4 sightings of at least 2 individual BLACK TERNS in a restricted
area of Fisher Butte this morning during marsh bird surveys. There were
also 6 AM WHITE PELICANS, most in full breeding plumage. LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS were easy to find along the dike and in muddy areas. LEAST SP
were migrating overhead and occasionally one was with the dows. There was
one drake REDHEAD with the large raft of RUDDY DUCKS south of the viewing
platform past the end of Royal. Only 2 AM BITTERNS all morning and few SORA
and VIRGINIA RAIL as well.
At the Hwy 126 lot I counted a dozen BLACK NECKED STILT and 6 WILSON'S
PHALAROPES (2 were doing the spin thing) in pond 1. A YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRD flew over (this is a location I do not see many YHBL). PURPLE
MARTINS are back everywhere on the reservoir in good numbers. (There are
new boxes directly west of the platform at Royal making observation in that
area easier).
