Evan and I were doing some biological reconnaissance behind the foredeune of Delaura Beach this am, possibly while David Bailey was counting shorebirds on the beach proper. About 500 peeps in multiple flocks, mostly Western Sandpipers and Dunlins, zinged RIGHT over our heads and then continued low over the dune grass to the north. They were apparently using the deflation plain to avoid traveling directly into the strong NW wind.
