There must have been close to 100 American
Goldfinches at the feeders and on the ground
in my yard yesterday for most of the
afternoon, then 20 or so Cedar Waxwings came
to the bird bath repeatedly and have returned
(same or new batch?) this morning.
I also saw a solitary male Lesser Goldfinch
in a smaller flock of American Goldfinches
earlier this week.
All in all, this has been the busiest and
most rewarding spring for backyard birding
that I've ever witnessed - more species,
including some new to me, and greater numbers.
In addition to the usual yardbirds (*=new to me):
Townsend's Warbler*
Black&White Warbler*
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Nashville Warbler*
Western Tanager*
Orange-crowned Warbler
Evening Grosbeak* (new to me on the west coast)
Black-headed Grosbeak
White-crowned Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Varied Thrush
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Rufous-sided Towhee
Red-bellied Sapsucker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Rufous Hummingbird
Frank
